The command regarding the Sabbath had not been clearly articulated in the Scriptures until this point; it is here that Moses emphasizes its observance and provides guidance on food preparation. Nevertheless, there is no uncertainty that the Sabbath law is deeply rooted in antiquity, handed down from the ancestors to Abraham and his offspring. In the nurturing of the Israelites, this ancient practice is reestablished, and Moses refers to the miraculous doubling of manna as a means to highlight its significance. With the delivery of the law, the necessity of diligently observing the Sabbath begins to be firmly established.
