In circumstances where there was no clear proof that the item in question was owned by the individual who recognized it in the possession of another, both parties were required to present themselves before the tribunal. This court likely scrutinized the testimonies, adhering to the legal principle which cautions witnesses: ‘Thou shalt not give thy hand to the wicked to be a witness of unrighteousness.’ A similar principle likely applied to the situation involving stray livestock, discussed in note 4, where either the owner or the shepherd claimed that the animals were part of their flock.
