The prophet shall prevail, and he will proclaim the word, "I the Lord will prevail over that prophet; I will extend My hand against him and remove him from the midst of the people of Israel." They will bear their iniquity. However, it is not characteristic of the Righteous Judge to lead the Prophet astray and then to punish the one who has been drawn away. Thus, God refers not to the actual leading astray of the Prophet, but rather to permitting him to be led away. Although I could swiftly expose his falsehoods, I choose to withhold My judgment and allow him to stray of his own accord, not out of compulsion.

Consequently, He warns of equal punishment for both the inquirer and the responder, stating, "According to the iniquity of the one who inquires and according to the iniquity of the one who responds: In accordance with the iniquity of the Prophet, the same shall apply to him." Moreover, let not the house of Israel be defiled by Me or in all their sins; instead, they shall be as My people, and I will be to them as their God, declares the Lord of Adonai. This means that I will not inflict this punishment upon them without purpose; through their downfall, I will favor My people and rescue them from wickedness. For My desire is that this people should belong to Me, and I long to be their God, taking great care of them.
