The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I will assemble all your desires that you have mixed together, along with everyone you cherished and those you despised, and I will bring them against you from every direction. I will execute judgment upon you through your own lovers; you have wickedly contended with the Chaldeans, Assyrians, Canaanites, and Egyptians. They will be used as instruments against you, delivering a retribution fitting for your actions. I will also unite with your lovers those who oppose you, so that they and others may witness your immense wrongdoing. I will make your iniquities known to them, and they will observe all your disgrace. I will exact vengeance upon you from those you loved, and from those who shed blood, and I will immerse you in the blood of wrath and zeal. You will endure the consequences meant for murderers and unfaithful spouses; those you have unlawfully emulated, with them you will share the same fate.
