2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Ephraem the Syrian

4th centuryChurch Father

You have engaged in immorality for the sake of gain. I will hand you over to your adversaries, who will expose your unfaithfulness and dismantle your places of worship. They will do this out of vengeance because you have compensated those who sought you, causing them to come to you and defile themselves. Therefore, I will surrender you into the power of your foes, who will seize everything you possess and dismantle the sites of your idolatry. Through the captivity of your children, they will enact retribution in the sight of many nations.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I will hand you over to them, and they will dismantle your places of immorality, which represent your wicked sanctuaries, and they will ultimately ruin your basis. This was a reference to the sacred temple, as the ministry performed there served as their foundation, support, and establishment. They will remove your clothing and seize your instruments of worship, leaving you exposed and forsaken. They will strip away your garments and take your vessels of adoration, leaving you bare and shivering.
