The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I will unleash my fury upon you; through the flames of my indignation, I will turn against you. I will pour out my anger upon you, and in the blazing fires of my wrath, you shall be affected. I will hand you over to the hands of ruthless enemies who bring devastation. You shall become a source of destruction to the flames, your lifeblood shall stain your land; there will be no memory of you, for I the Lord have declared it. This refers to the uprising against Babylon by the Medes and Persians, who, besieging the city’s defenses, employed various siege engines. On the eve of the feast, they breached the walls, capturing the entire city, setting much of it ablaze, and filling the streets and homes with blood.
