One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

You have increased your unfaithfulness, recalling the days of your youth when you engaged in immorality in Egypt; this indicates that I have overlooked your transgressions in Egypt, yet you have rekindled the memories of those offenses through your fresh starts. The consistency of the laws concerning wrongdoing often brings past sins back to mind. Again, in an allegorical and symbolic sense, He charges Jerusalem with idolatry.
