Take the fattest of the flock, and lay together piles of bones under it: the seething thereof is boiling hot, and the bones thereof are thoroughly sodden in the midst of it.

He designates the city with One who knows; the waters poured out signify various disasters; the artifacts of sacrifice and the best of the flock symbolize the rulers, leaders, and priests, who once enjoyed abundance, prosperity, and influence, yet are suddenly brought to ruin by calamities. The charred bones used for fueling fire represent those who endure poverty and face starvation, while the flames call to mind the king of Babylon and his army.

Additionally, God declares: It will rise and grow, with his bones being scorched within him; that is, the flames set within consume the bones that became a source of pestilence, for the people are left vulnerable to hunger, and those who manage to survive famine find themselves in dire straits, threatened by the besieging forces.
