The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

For his blood is among us, signifying that they shall endure it as a consequence for numerous unjust killings. Upon a solid stone I have commenced this act: I will not let it be spilled onto the ground, to cloak the earth, nor to unleash my wrath for retribution: I will place his blood upon the solid rock, that I may not conceal it; that is, I will not hide the transgressions they have committed, but I will reveal them in all their bare exposure, displaying them to all, like the blood that is neither poured out upon the soil nor absorbed by it, but remains on the solid rock, eternally preserved as a testimony against those who dared to shed it.
