All that I proclaim is certain, declares the Lord. Thus, accept this prophecy as true: the Babylonians will demolish your walls, ravage your homes, and fill the nearby dwellings with rubble; the noise from the horses and chariots will be so intense that it will feel as though an earthquake is shaking the city. Your belongings will be taken, and your people will be made captives. A profound desolation will befall you, to the extent that fishermen will dry their nets in your rivers, and what is typically done on smooth rocks by the sea shall occur within you due to the immense destruction. Yet, what has been declared, “Thou shalt not be destroyed,” can be known through the prophecy of the revered Prophet Isaiah.

This prophet also foretold dire circumstances for Tyre but confined those events to a specific period. He declared: “Tyre shall be forsaken for seventy years, like the life of one king, like the duration of man” (Isaiah 23:15). After the seventy years, the Lord will cause Tyre to rise again, restoring it to its former glory: it will become a marketplace for all the kingdoms of the earth. It will be purchased and consecrated to the Lord (Isaiah 23:17, 18). Therefore, the phrase, “Thou shalt not be thrown together,” signifies a transformation in character; that is, he will not be gathered in his previous wickedness, but will receive a new and entirely different stewardship, which, as Isaiah prophesied, will be set apart for the Lord. This is demonstrated by the unfolding of events and the righteousness that now prevails. For having turned to God from former bondage and idolatry, he has embraced the light of godliness.
