The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Your heart became arrogant in your kindness, meaning you began to have an inflated view of yourself, recognizing the blessings I have bestowed upon you. Your wisdom has vanished alongside your goodness; in other words, you have lost everything by abandoning the position I assigned to you. Because of the abundance of your transgressions, I will humble you and confront you before rulers. Through your great deception, you have descended from your elevated position, and you now find yourself ridiculed by those who maintain their assigned authority and govern their passions with mastery.
