The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

All those among the Gentiles who have guided you will celebrate your downfall. For one who remains in bondage, witnessing the demise of false gods and the complete destruction of their shrines, lives in despair, burdened in spirit, and constantly mourning. You have been reduced to ruins, yet this will not be your eternal state. This clearly illustrates his removal from power. After concluding his sorrow over Tyre, he shifts his focus to Sidon, which lies nearby, and succinctly prophesies that a similar fate awaits it.
