The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

God declares that He will bring judgment upon Tyre, the Philistines, and all those living nearby, so that His people will not have a model of iniquity among them or face enemies who continually attack and harass them. After predicting these severe events, He also foretells blessings for Israel, which only serves to heighten their sorrow; for in their resentment, they twist Israel's prosperity into a source of anguish for themselves.
