The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Through water and the depths, he summoned the countless nations bound to him, who, like a source of nourishment, provided tribute to the host, nurturing it as if tending gardens. He equipped its soldiers, meaning the various military units, to venture forth into all the fields, that is, to reach the nations yet unyielding and in bondage, so that they too might become his subjects.
