He raised his branches above all the trees in the field. Beneath his foliage rested a multitude of languages. This symbolizes the immense authority of the Assyrian empire over all nations; thus, it is said, Under the shadow of his foliage there resided a multitude of tongues.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

For this reason, His grandeur was elevated over all the trees in the field, and His branches expanded, raised high above the waters when He was extended. This was the source of His haughtiness and vanity. He was nourished by numerous nations, growing along with His branches.
