Jerome of Stridon
And the Lord spoke to me, saying, Son of man, direct your gaze toward Mount Seir and prophesy against it, saying, Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir; I will stretch out my hand against you and turn you into a desolate wasteland. I will devastate your cities, and you shall become a barren land, and you will know that I am the Lord. For you have been a perpetual adversary and have delivered the children of Israel to the sword during their greatest distress and in their deepest iniquity. As I live, declares the Lord God, I will give you over to bloodshed, and blood will pursue you; since you have shown hatred for blood, it will follow you relentlessly.

I will make Mount Seir desolate and devoid of inhabitants, and I will wipe out its inhabitants, both men and animals. The mountains will be filled with the fallen; in your hills, valleys, and streams, those slain by the sword will lie. I will turn you into everlasting wastelands, and your cities will be uninhabited, and you shall know that I am the Lord. Because you have declared that these two nations and their lands will be yours and that you will inherit them despite the Lord being there; as I live, declares the Lord God, I will act according to your animosity and your jealousy, demonstrated by your hatred for them. You will recognize my sovereignty when I bring judgment upon you, and you will know that I am the Lord. I have heard your insults, which you have uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, "They who are desolate are surrendered to us." You have defied me with your words and exalted yourself while belittling me; I have taken note of it. Thus says the Lord God, When the whole earth rejoices, I will turn you into a deserted wasteland; just as you rejoiced over the destruction of the house of Israel, so will I ensure your desolation, Mount Seir, and all of Idumea; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
The Word of God has not always been inherent within the prophets, nor has it continuously dwelled in their hearts; otherwise, Ezekiel would not have repeatedly mentioned, And the word of the Lord came to me, saying. Due to human mortality and life's demands, at times the word has departed from them. As John the Baptist stated, He who sent me to baptize said to me, "Upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining, this is He" (John 1:33). The terms of 'descending and remaining' would not apply to Christ if the Holy Spirit never departed from others.
