The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I have listened to the voices of your insults directed at the mountains of Israel, proclaiming that these heights are vast, everlasting, and vacant, designated for our inheritance. Additionally, you have spoken against Me with your words and have increased your accusations, and I have taken note of them. The Lord does not desire to remind us of these blasphemous utterances, instructing us instead to refrain from voicing them, while urging us to keep in mind the prophetic message: Let not my mouth utter the deeds of mankind (Psalm 16:4). God has revealed not just their disdain and malevolence, but also their pride and fierce rebellion against Him. For our great benefit, He has emphasized: ‘You have multiplied words against Me, and I have heard them,’ indicating that all our actions and speech are fully within His awareness and hearing.
