Thus declares the Lord, the Sovereign God, I will render you desolate for all time, bringing sorrow to the entire earth. Just as the foe rejoiced over the downfall of the house of Israel, so will I make you forsaken; you will be laid waste, O Mount Seir, and all of Edom shall be consumed, as they are taken captive, for I am their God. He warns them of a severe judgment; for He states that when everyone else dwells in peace and joy, I will strike you with disasters, ensuring that you do not find solace even in the shared suffering of others. Israel found some comfort when Nebuchadnezzar attacked, as he not only smote Israel but also the Tyrians, Sidonians, Philistines, and Egyptians.

Yet, He assures that this correction will be beneficial; for He states, they shall be taken away, for I am the Lord their God. Hence, this discipline is advantageous because, as the Prophet Isaiah has proclaimed, it opens the ears, leading them to the knowledge of their Lord, who wounds but also heals.
