The scholars assert that the residents of Israel's cities used the arrows and spears of Holofernes' troops to ignite a fire in the sanctuary for seven years, commemorating their triumph. This is referenced in Ezekiel, where it states, "And they shall kindle fire with them seven years." Had the victorious taken the arrows of their weapons, they would not have been set ablaze. However, if they were indeed burned, it was according to God's directive. The priests took some of these weapons into the temple as a memorial, using the shafts to sustain the fire for incense burning over seven years, in accordance with God's command, during the festive occasions and new moons.
