One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I will send fire upon Gog, and the coastlands will dwell in tranquility, and they will be taken away, for my name is the Lord. And the islands shall be carried off in peace, for My name is the Lord. My holy name will be acknowledged among the people of Israel, and it will not be dishonored. He also provides the rationale: the nations will be taken away so that they recognize that I am the holy Lord among My people. When the nations comprehend the might of My providence and see that I protect those called by My name, they will no longer attribute weakness to Me or believe that My people's previous captivity stemmed from My inability. Then He reveals the steadfastness of His words.
