The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

John Chrysostom

4th centuryChurch Father

When the servant inquired if there was space for them to sleep in her father's household, she replied that there was not only space but also an abundance of straw and fodder available.

Just as she had previously exceeded his request for water by offering to supply both him and his camels, now she went beyond his simple request for a place to rest by providing straw and hay, warmly inviting him into her home and signaling her readiness to reward him with her hospitality. It is crucial that we contemplate this thoughtfully, examining ourselves and drawing comparisons with her as we reflect on the virtue exemplified by this woman.
