They experienced renewed anxiety, fearing that this might further condemn them. Confronted by their conscience, they traced everything back to the wrong they had done to Joseph.
And one of them opening his sack, to give his beast provender in the inn, saw the money in the sack's mouth,
וַיִּפְתַּ֨ח הָאֶחָ֜ד אֶת־שַׂקּ֗וֹ לָתֵ֥ת מִסְפּ֛וֹא לַחֲמֹר֖וֹ בַּמָּל֑וֹן וַיַּרְא֙ אֶת־כַּסְפּ֔וֹ וְהִנֵּה־ה֖וּא בְּפִ֥י אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃

They experienced renewed anxiety, fearing that this might further condemn them. Confronted by their conscience, they traced everything back to the wrong they had done to Joseph.
To his donkey. If every brother had only a single donkey designated to carry the bread, supplies, and water, then the amount of bread taken to their home was likely not substantial. Was it that the Egyptians restricted the sale of bread in large quantities, or was Jacob not yet experiencing a severe shortage of it? Alternatively, did the brothers possess additional donkeys, apart from those they used, which they loaded with bread to bring back home?
