John Chrysostom
This was mentioned regarding those who have not embraced the faith, to encourage them through these words to find their way back. However, it is truly realized within the Church, where her doors are perpetually open and never closed.
And thy gates shall be open continually: they shall not be shut day nor night, that the strength of the Gentiles may be brought to thee, and their kings may be brought.

This was mentioned regarding those who have not embraced the faith, to encourage them through these words to find their way back. However, it is truly realized within the Church, where her doors are perpetually open and never closed.
What will transpire and what will be bestowed once the trying times come to an end? And thy gates shall be opened daily, day and night they shall not be shut. The assurance of tranquility and the abundance that accompanies it appears to be articulated in these words. Cities that experience threats from enemies do not typically keep their gates wide open; instead, they only do so at opportune moments and out of necessity, often accompanied by trepidation. In contrast, those who enjoy complete liberation from any form of peril throw their gates open willingly to all who approach, even during the darkest hours of the night.
Thus, God, in these affirmations, extends His promise of peace and great prosperity; the influx of visitors to their city will be unceasing, akin to a perpetual stream of souls drawn by faith seeking the revelation of Christ, ensuring that the gates are always ajar and never barred, not just for those of humble means obedient to earthly rulers, but also for those wielding authority and dominion over all. Even today, the unfolding of events bears witness to the fulfillment of this prophecy; for the Church consistently welcomes all seekers of faith, without turning away anyone who expresses a willingness to believe. As there is no obstacle, anyone wishing to embrace this faith is able to step into the light of authentic theology at their convenience. It is God the Father, through whom, in whom, and with whom His glory is manifested, who leads all toward the knowledge of the Son. To this end, He indicated as well, saying, No man can come to me, unless the Father who sent me draws him (John 6:44). He indicates that the strength of the nations will be invited, and by this I mean not solely those of lesser status, but also those who hold authority and honor in this world.
The children of outsiders will construct your walls, and their rulers will serve you. For I struck you in My fury, yet I have granted you pardon through My compassion. Your gates will remain perpetually open, never shut, day or night, so that the strength of the nations may come to you, and their kings will be brought forth. Nations and kingdoms that refuse to serve you will face destruction, and those nations will become desolate. The foreigners will build your walls, and their leaders will stand before you. It is because of My anger that I have struck you, but in My mercy, I have embraced you. Your gates will always be open, neither closed day nor night, to welcome the power of the nations and their rulers, who will come to you.
Those nations and kings that do not serve you will perish, leading to their ruin.
The Church is enriched, and the city of the Savior is constructed, as even the outsiders contribute to the building of its walls to prevent the enemy's entry and keep disbelief at bay. In this context, "foreigners" refers to the Gentile nations, who have indeed helped establish the Church of Christ, with their leaders serving it or standing before it. This may be interpreted both literally and spiritually. Literally, we observe that the Roman Caesars have brought the regions under Christ’s dominion, constructing churches with public funds and enacting laws to protect against pagan persecution and heretical deceit.
Spiritually, those who excel in temperance, eloquence, and holiness dedicate themselves to the spirit's authority, aiding those often neglected or oppressed by persecution, so that His love may be rekindled through His mercy. Additionally, it can be noted that the once afflicted community among the Jewish people will be reconciled to Him through the calling of the Gentiles, with gates wide open at all times to those seeking salvation. This signifies that individuals seeking faith in times of joy or sorrow will not be turned away. The wealth and strength of the nations will flow to it, and their kings will come as captives. You will see this when the most eloquent among them embrace the faith of Christ, rendering the wisdom of the wise as foolishness, with the understanding of the prudent cast aside, so that the foolishness of God may be wiser than human intellect (1 Cor. 1).
Conversely, those who refuse to serve the Church constructively and seek to elevate it to apostolic stature will face destruction, alongside all who do not welcome God among them, leading to desolation for everything they possessed.
The Church's Prophetic Vision What force attracted the peoples to ancient Jerusalem for worship? Which monarchs from distant lands came to venerate the Sovereign of all creation? The doors of God’s Church are perpetually ajar, welcoming those who approach, as well as the righteous kings guided by the teachings of the holy apostles. However, instead of honoring Jerusalem, the Babylonians ignored it, while many other nations revered the Church of God, particularly their descendants. When individuals reached their earthly end, they embraced the true faith and exchanged it for the former beliefs, thus honoring the Savior and adorning houses of prayer with their worship. Furthermore, Jerusalem acquired a new designation, as the Roman rulers referred to it as ‘Aelia’ (Latin Aelia Capitolina).
How, then, was the fulfillment of prophecy unveiled if others could not perceive Zion in a spiritual sense? The Church of God unveils the essence of prophecies: she consistently receives royal offerings and tributes from the nations, extolling her Creator.
The influx of people from distant lands bringing their abundant gifts for the temple in Jerusalem will be so immense that it will continue unabated even throughout the night; one group will follow another without interruption, ensuring that the gates of Jerusalem remain open around the clock. Among those coming to Jerusalem will be monarchs accompanied by a large entourage. Furthermore, the constant flow of visitors entering the city both day and night suggests that Jerusalem will be a place of peace and safety, with no adversaries necessitating the closing of its gates. This prophecy cannot refer to the Jerusalem of the Old Covenant but is specifically intended for the New Covenant Church, which possesses the capacity to attract believers from all nations, including their rulers.
