Gregory the Great

6th centuryChurch Father

In a few years, I will embark on a journey from which I will not come back, as stated in Job 16:22. Indeed, everything transient is fleeting, even if it appears to be gradual. On the path of death, we depart and do not return—not because we will not rise again to earthly existence, but because we will not revisit the toils of this worldly life to reap the fruits of our efforts.

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

As Job senses the inevitability of death approaching and finds it impossible to alter his friends' doubts, he implores the Lord to intervene. He turns to his companions, reaffirming his righteousness and asserting that they are mistaken in their judgments, expressing his understanding that his end is imminent.
