The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

He has sent fire into my very being and brought it down upon me. For the Lord permitted adversaries to surround, ravage, and set the city ablaze. I am ensnared, turned away, and given over to ruin; I endure illness day after day. The Prophet refers to the net as the threat of impending disaster, as those who escape are also taken prisoner. He further illustrates the righteousness of the retribution.
