The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

"Guard against my iniquity," He shaped me with His hands. In other words, He placed burdens upon me and surrendered me to my adversaries. He has placed His yoke upon my shoulders, compelling me into harsh servitude under the unyielding Babylonians. "And my strength is exhausted, for the Lord has given me afflictions in my grasp," against which I cannot resist. He also mourns the loss of courageous men.
