My eyes have grown dim with weeping, and my heart is heavy; my honor is laid waste upon the ground because of the affliction of my people’s children. Yet, the most sorrowful of all experiences is when "the infant and he who is on the heights of the city have withered," for hunger has triumphed over instinctive love. Therefore, the Prophet proclaimed:
