The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

There exists no law. Prior to the enemy's incursion, the law was boldly disregarded, yet following the city's fall and the temple's destruction, they found themselves unable to worship as prescribed by the law, despite their desires. Her seers received no revelations from the Lord, referring to the false prophets who made deceitful predictions about Jerusalem. This illustrates both the elders lamenting and dressed in mourning attire, as well as the prophet himself crying out.
