One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

"Enhance the number of the daughters of Judah in their lowliness and humility. As seen in the phrase 'like the grapes of His vineyard,' this reflects the devastation caused by foes who have set God's temple ablaze. They 'scattered His gatherings,' as there were no longer celebrations but rather a compulsion to mourn. The Lord caused Zion to forget both the feasts and the Sabbath. Furthermore, He allowed the ruin of the kings and priests, the desolation of the temple, the desecration of the altar, the annihilation of the walls of the people, and, most painfully of all."
