For the breast that is elevated and the shoulder that is separated I have taken of the children of Israel, from off their victims of peace offerings: and have given them to Aaron the priest, and to his sons, by a law for ever, from all the people of Israel.

With the support of good deeds, opposition to the enemy, and a steadfast resolve, they should embody what they comprehend intellectually through their actions. For as it is written, "Jesus began to do and teach" (Acts 1:1). The term used for the chest piece is referred to as έπίθεμα, which denotes an ‘addition’ or a ‘superior’ quality; this is echoed in the term thenupho, which emphasizes superiority to the highest degree. In this context, we grasp the message from Malachi: "The mouth of the priests shall preserve knowledge, and the people shall seek the law from his mouth" (Malachi 2:7). It is crucial that priests possess a deep understanding of the law and teachings.

The enhancement of spiritual grace shapes an individual capable of correcting those who engage in wrongful acts leading to destruction, while maintaining a clear and distinct demeanor that enables everyone to recognize both the priest's actions and his virtues. This discussion extends to the nature of sacrifices, particularly what is presented upon the altar and what is bestowed upon the priests by the Lord.

In Leviticus, the terms "breast of libation" and "ramo of participation" refer to sacrifices made to God by the priests. The term "breast" signifies the highest and most profound contemplation, while "ramo" represents the active expression of thought, conduct, and virtue. Through conduct, the mind is directed toward God Himself, and the practice of virtue in spiritual endeavors enables a detachment from the transient nature of worldly things. This understanding explains how the Word is interpreted by the priests, who have chosen God alone as their eternal inheritance, rejecting all earthly possessions. Furthermore, since the hearts of certain individuals, shaped by the teachings of the Word, are wholly dedicated to knowledge and virtue, they embody the spirit of piety and faith.

By setting aside all concerns for the corruptible aspects of the world, they commit themselves entirely to realizing the truly incorruptible goodness. Thus, the Word instructs the priests to offer to God the "breast of the offering" of those who come forward, representing their hearts, and the "ramo," symbolizing their actions.
