John Chrysostom
In the preceding context, He warned of consequences for those who do not accept, while here He promises blessings for those who do. To illustrate His greater concern for the latter, He emphasizes that it is not merely the act of welcoming a prophet or a righteous individual that matters, but doing so "in the name of the prophet" and "in the name of the righteous." This means that if someone extends hospitality not out of worldly motives or calculations, but specifically because the individual is a prophet or a righteous person, they will receive the rewards appropriate to prophets and righteous individuals. This also points to the worthiness of the one who acknowledges a prophet or a righteous person. As Paul expresses, "your abundance in their deprivation, and their abundance will be in your deprivation" (2 Corinthians 8:14).
