Augustine of Hippo
Matthew advances his account in this manner: The Pharisees conspired against Him, seeking to annihilate Him. However, Jesus discerned their intentions and departed from the location. Many people followed Him, and He healed all of them. He instructed them not to reveal His identity in order to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah, which states, "In His name shall the nations trust." Mark and Luke also recount additional events, yet Mark appears to maintain the sequence of occurrences. He notes that when Jesus became aware of the hostile thoughts the Jews harbored against Him, He retreated with His disciples to the sea, where a great crowd gathered, and He healed numerous individuals. Following this, Mark recounts events in a manner that does not adhere strictly to chronological order.

It remains unclear whether the crowds assembled before Jesus ascended the mountain, as Mark suggests, or if these events unfolded at different times. This ambiguity is also present in Luke’s account: During that time, He ascended the mountain to pray. The phrase "during those days" clearly indicates that the events described did not follow immediately after the prior ones.
