Observe how the Redeemer, with profound wisdom as a true instructor, responds to them. Although they approached Him with ulterior motives, their inquiry stemmed more from ignorance. Thus, the Redeemer refrains from labeling them as hypocrites. So, what is Christ? He addresses both their words and the intent behind them, exposing their deepest thoughts by openly revealing them and also by convicting the consciences of those who questioned Him. Notice how He demonstrates both the reality of the resurrection and clarifies that it will not occur as they presume. What does He convey to them? "Ye are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God" (Matt. 22:29).

Since they reference Moses and the law, claiming familiarity with it, the Redeemer points out that their very query reveals their lack of understanding of the Scriptures. They test Him, not realizing the Scriptures’ true meaning and being unaware of the power of God. Is it not astonishing, He asks, that you challenge me, whom you do not truly know, while you fail to grasp the immense power of God, which has been evident through numerous proofs, and yet you have not comprehended it either from the Scriptures or from fundamental reason? For even basic reasoning indicates that for God, all things are conceivable.
