A different voice seems to echo the past victories of the Amorites over the Moabites: "Alas for you, Moab! You have fallen, O nation of Hamos! His sons are dispersed, and his daughters have been taken captive by the Amorite king Sihon.”

The underlying message is clear—Hamos, their deity, failed to defend them.
