However, when their servile delight in sustenance once more kindled their desire for indulgence, and they were not deprived of anything essential for survival, they began to yearn for the fullness of Egyptian feasting.

The people, nonetheless, have yet to follow the path of Moses' selflessness, remaining captivated by base desires and leaning towards the pleasures of Egypt. The narrative of their experiences reveals that human nature is particularly susceptible to this vice, with countless avenues leading to this affliction.

The complaints and dissatisfaction expressed by the Israelites during their arduous journey serve as a significant warning for Christians. A believer who neglects to cultivate faith and hope in God may find themselves vulnerable to the burdens of trials and hardships on the narrow road of life, especially when Divine Providence ordains a period of testing. In times of anguish, one should keep in mind God's goodness, as He does not seek to harm us but rather corrects those who draw near to Him (Judith 8:27). Acknowledging personal transgressions, which might warrant far harsher consequences if only God's justice were considered, leads one to humility. We must approach God with love and devotion, echoing the sentiments of the Psalmist: It is good for me, because Thou hast humbled me. It is beneficial for me to remain close to God and place my confidence in the Lord (Psalm 118:71; Psalm 72:28).
