Why did the Lord instruct that certain sacred vessels be draped in blue while others were adorned with scarlet? The valuable vessels were covered solely with blue coverings, symbolizing the expanse of the heavens. Thus, what lay concealed within the veil was to be shrouded in blue, while that which remained exposed was to be covered with scarlet and similar hues. For it is not heaven that enforces penalty, but rather the earth that bears the weight of the transgressions of the law. The scarlet fabric represents the earthly kingdom, yet the kingdom of God exists eternally and remains unchanged. Hence, the elements situated outside the tabernacle were cloaked in both scarlet and blue veils.

With divine consideration for the tribe of Kohath, God ordained that first the priests should cover the tabernacle and other sacred objects with these veils upon entering the sanctuary. Only then could the sons of Kohath proceed to handle them, lest they should be overwhelmed by the awe-inspiring and hidden majesty.
