Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

The wise individual attunes themselves to the call of Wisdom, who proclaims her message to all from elevated and bustling locations. Acknowledging the fullness of truth and significance in her hands, she illustrates her divine nature and actions as the hypostatic Wisdom. She bestows upon her followers strength, abundance, and well-being. As a co-creator with God the Almighty, she collaborates in the formation of the universe and now encourages everyone to absorb her teachings, pledging to enrich their lives with wisdom and joy. The Lord established me as the beginning of His paths, in His works. The original Hebrew text states ‘kanani,’ meaning ‘acquired,’ suggesting that the Greek translation of 'created' is not as accurate. The early church fathers, like Athanasius and Eusebius, argued for the translation 'possessed' rather than 'created,' aligning with Akilas’s version and the Latin Vulgate in Psalm 138:13.

Vissarion (Nechaev)

19th centuryCommentator

Wisdom bestows rewards based on individual worth. For those who cherish her, Wisdom reveals her affection and grace. She does not show favoritism; rather, she equitably allocates each person's rightful portion and enriches their stores with abundant blessings.
