Acknowledge that the Father was present with Him, just as He was in communion with the Father. Regarding the time of creation, Wisdom proclaims: "When He made the heavens, I was with Him, and when He made the springs of waters." Thus, in the Old Testament, the Father indicates that the Son is to be honored equally, reflecting His role as the Creator. The beings created by the Son exist through Him, and when it is stated that God is truthfully named, it must be understood that the Son shares this title. Similarly, the Spirit is also acknowledged, for God is invoked through the Spirit. Therefore, the Father is recognized alongside the Son and the Spirit, for it is the Trinity that is invoked.

In observing beauty, one can note that God has fashioned a world resplendent with it. This beauty is perceived not only in individual creations, such as when God brought forth light and distinguished day from night (cf. Gen. 1:3), separated land from water, and set the sun, moon, and stars to illuminate the earth, each of which He praised distinctly. The exquisite beauty found in each creation is also present across the entirety of the universe, as Wisdom attests: "I was that which He praised when He rejoiced in having made the universe" (cf. Proverbs 8:30-31). Likewise, within the human form, each part is pleasing, yet there is a greater harmony and beauty in the elegant integration of all its members, with each one occupying its rightful place in perfect synchrony with the others.

The manifestation of Wisdom brought forth the heavens and the earth and completed all things by the authority of the Word, for such is the nature of God.

She proclaims her message to all from elevated and bustling locations and, acknowledging that her hands are filled with truth and significance, reveals her divine nature and actions as the incarnate Wisdom. She bestows power, wealth, and prosperity upon her followers; being a co-creator with God, the Creator, she shares in the creation of the world. Now, she extends an invitation to all to hear her teachings, vowing to impart wisdom and joy.

"The Lord created (stazha) me at the beginning of His ways, for His works." In the Hebrew scriptures, the term used is 'kanani' which means 'acquired,' suggesting that instead of the Greek rendering 'ektiase' meaning 'created,' it is more accurately interpreted, as the early church fathers (Athanasius, Eusebius, in their discussions with the Arians) suggest, as 'ektisato,' which translates to 'acquired,' akin to the translation by Aquila, and aligns with the Vulgate in Psalm 138:13.

Vissarion (Nechaev)

19th centuryCommentator

The Lord has set boundaries for the ocean that it cannot exceed. These boundaries are the shores, which the waters do not transgress, much like how words do not emerge from sealed lips. The vastness of the waters that cover the earth and fill the seas, fed by subterranean springs, can create a sense of dread that they could erode the land or disrupt its very foundation. However, such concerns are unfounded. The Lord has laid the earth upon firm foundations. The robust rock formations that encircle the planet, forming its solid crust, are so formidable that they can only be disturbed by an extraordinary manifestation of divine power, as seen during the Flood. How marvelous are Your works, O Lord; in You all wisdom is realized! But through whom has the Lord displayed His wondrous creative wisdom? Through the Wisdom of the Hypostatic Union. She speaks of Him and her role in the adornment of creation.
