John Chrysostom

A truly wise and devout wife possesses the ability to guide her husband and align his spirit with her aspirations. No one—be it friends, educators, or leaders—will heed his words as attentively as he listens to his wife when she offers encouragement and guidance. This counsel brings him joy, as he deeply cherishes the insights of this trusted advisor. Numerous steadfast and resolute husbands have been softened by such influences. The wife shares in her husband’s life through meals, intimacy, the raising of children, and both public and private matters; she enters and exits life’s events alongside him in countless ways. Fully committed to him, she is united with him in the same manner that the body is integrated with the head.

If she exercises wisdom and diligence, she will excel and prevail over others in caring for her husband. Thus, I implore you to recognize this as a vital responsibility and offer sound counsel. A woman wields significant influence—for the sake of righteousness, she once spared Nabal from death. Consequently, as Paul expressed, “why knowest thou, wife, whether thou wouldst not save thy husband” (1 Cor. 7:16)? It is well known that in those times, Persis, Mariam, and Priscilla undertook the missions of the apostles. These are the exemplars of wifely devotion you should earnestly strive to follow.
