In recognizing that the judgment of Orthodoxy serves not as a form of punishment but rather as a declaration and safeguard, the Orthodox Church mirrors the approach of God as demonstrated in the Old Testament ecclesia. The Lord instructed Moses, saying, "You shall give a blessing on Mount Gerizim and an oath on Mount Ebal" (Deuteronomy 11:29). This directive was realized during the national assembly, where "the Levites... with a loud voice" declared the curse, and the people affirmed it by responding, "Amen" (Deuteronomy 27:14-15).

However, the Orthodox Church, in carrying out its solemn responsibility, also embraced the positive aspect of God’s command to "give blessing." While she has spoken judgment against those who sought her downfall, she joyfully extends her blessings to those whom divine Providence has appointed to facilitate her correction and promote peace.
