The Jewish people harmed themselves through their turning away from God to worship idols. It was not these idols that led them ‘out of the furnace of iron’ (Deut. 4: 20), nor did they provide any real advantages during their time in the wilderness.

Theophan the Recluse

Through the exaltation of God's name, the spirit, particularly as a reflection of sonship, uplifts faith, reinforcing the deep-seated belief that every word from God remains eternally true, His promises are genuine, and His commands are just and good. Alongside this faith is an established trust in our sonship—a total reliance, unreserved surrender to God's directives, and serene acceptance of His will, which leads to a life that is pleasing to God, characterized by humility and prayer.
