2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

You shall not possess hollow visions, nor will I regard your falsehoods as prophecies, but rather as sorcery, of which it is stated, There is no enmity in Jacob, nor is there a sorcerer in Israel (Num. 23:23). I will rescue My people from your grasp, and indeed you shall recognize that I am the Lord who redeems the lost.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Because you have caused distress among the just, alerting them to trials, and have emboldened the wicked by proclaiming favorable tidings to them—which goes against my purpose—I will bring you to complete ruin for these actions. I will cease your deceptive practices and save my people from the devastation you have wrought. After declaring these warnings to them, the Prophet shifts his focus to a different matter.
