The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

He spoke once more in a metaphorical manner, likening it to the jealousy of a husband whose wife has been unfaithful. He declared that He would put a stop to your shameful behavior through this punishment, and thus He would be released from His concerns for you; your paramours will no longer provoke His jealousy. This discipline will be applied to you.
