The Church Fathers on this verse

2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Ephraem the Syrian

4th centuryChurch Father

Therefore, you have failed to recall the days of your early life, when you were bare and ridiculed in your blood, when you were in destitution, standing at the shaving, and the Egyptian taskmasters forced you to bear the pots with bases.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

You have sacrificed your children, offering them to me when you made these offerings to others. This act surpasses all your acts of fornication and abominations. Indeed, the most grievous and sinful of all is this wrongful slaying of children, committed by those who believed, in their violence, that they were taking measures to avert disaster. You have forgotten the days of your youth, when you were vulnerable and despised, surrounded by your own blood, and yet you survived. You did not reflect on those early days, when you were exposed and undesirable, mingled in your blood, yet you continued to live.
