Jerome of Stridon
The Lord spoke to me, saying, "Son of man, will you not bring judgment upon Oolah and Oolibah and hold them accountable for their transgressions? They have engaged in unfaithfulness, and their hands bear the blood of innocent lives; they have intertwined themselves with false gods and offered up their children, whom I gave to them, making them pass through the fire. They have also committed these acts against me: on that day, they desecrated My holy place and disregarded My sabbaths. They sacrificed their children to idols, entering My sanctuary and profaning it right in My own house. They called upon distant people, sending messengers to them. So, behold, those whom you bathed in preparation, adorned your eyes, and dressed in fine garments approached you.

You reclined on a lavish bed, and before you was a well-laid table. On that table, you placed My incense and My anointing oils, and the melodies of joyous celebrations filled the air. Men from the wilderness came to you, adorned with chains and beautiful wreaths upon their heads. I spoke to her who willingly embraced unfaithfulness, declaring that she too would engage in further immorality. They approached her as one would a promiscuous woman, much like they approached Oolah and Oolibah, women engulfed in sin. These are righteous judges; they will assess them with the penalties reserved for adulterers and those who spill blood for their hands are stained with both adultery and murder. Thus says the Lord God: Gather the multitude against them, bring chaos and spoil upon them; they will be stoned by the nations' stones and slain with swords. Their children will perish, and their homes will be consumed by flames. I will cleanse the land of wickedness, serving as a warning to all women against committing iniquity like theirs. Your own wickedness will return upon you, and you shall bear the consequences for your sins alongside your idols, and you will know that I am the Lord God." As I have previously noted, I have set aside the minor differences between the LXX and the Hebrew texts for clarity’s sake. It logically follows that one who has conveyed the adulteries of Samaria and Jerusalem should likewise proclaim their impending judgment.
