The Lord spoke to me, saying, Son of man, direct your attention toward the people of Ammon and prophesy to them. Tell the children of Ammon to listen to the word of the Lord God: thus says the Lord God, because you have spoken against my sanctuary with scorn, exclaiming joyfully over it because it has been defiled, and against the land of Israel because it has become a wasteland, and against the house of Judah because they were taken captive: for this reason, I will grant you as an inheritance to the people of the East, and they will establish their sheepfolds and set up their tents among you.

For a time, they will consume your produce and drink your milk, and I will transform Gabbath into a place for camels and the children of Ammon into a pasture for livestock; and you shall know that I am the Lord. For thus says the Lord God, since you have clapped your hands and stomped your feet and rejoiced wholeheartedly over the land of Israel: therefore, behold, I will extend my hand against you, deliver you to the nations for plunder, obliterate you from among the peoples, and eradicate you from the lands, and I will bring you to ruin: and you shall know that I am the Lord. After Jerusalem was besieged or captured, when he arrived in Babylon, who could evade the news that the city was about to face destruction along with the temple? According to the prophetic tradition, a warning was issued to all neighboring nations that rejoiced at Jerusalem's fall and the temple's burning, particularly directed at the descendants of Ammon, whose principal city is Rabbath, known today as Philadelphia after the Egyptian monarch Ptolemy, called Philadelphus, who governed over Arabia and Judah. Son of man, he commands, turn towards the children of Ammon, who are descendants of Lot.
