Ephraem the Syrian
You expressed with joy, "The holy temple of God has been ravaged by the incursion of outsiders and the blood of the Jewish people, and the land of Israel has been laid waste."
And thou shalt say to the children of Ammon: Hear ye the word of the Lord God: Thus saith the Lord God: Because thou hast said: Ha, ha, upon my sanctuary, because it was profaned: and upon the land of Israel, because it was laid waste: and upon the house of Juda, because they are led into captivity:

The term "sons of Kedemli" is interpreted by various scholars as "sons of the east." They have their origins in Ishmael. Thus, the Almighty God, speaking through the prophet, addresses the descendants of Ammon, stating, “Since you have celebrated the destruction of my temple at the hands of unclean and wicked individuals, and the devastation of the land of Israel, along with the exile of the tribe of Judah, I will bring upon you a nation that is less powerful and inferior to the Babylonians. This nation will impose numerous hardships on you, establishing grain storage in your cities, herding their camels across your land, and turning you into shepherds of sheep. Consequently, when these afflictions befall you, it will be clear that my people have encountered such suffering not due to any lack of power on my part, but rather because of the iniquity you have displayed.
