Therefore behold I will stretch forth my hand upon thee, and will deliver thee to be the spoil of nations, and will cut thee off from among the people, and destroy thee out of the lands, and break thee in pieces: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.

For this reason, behold, I will extend my hand against you, and I will strip you bare with my words, and I will remove you from among the people, and I will annihilate you from the nations with utter destruction, and I will make you as I am, says the Lord Sovereign. This is because, while you took joy in the misfortunes of my people, celebrating and reveling, even stamping your feet in delight, you will face severe calamities as a consequence, and you will truly come to understand my sovereignty. Following this, God directs the prophecy towards Moab, the sibling and neighbor of Ammon.
