Enter and isolate yourself within your dwelling. The Lord appointed the prophet as a sign for the people, and through the actions of the prophet, in obedience to the word of the Lord, the Israelites were to witness the hardships they would face from their adversaries. The prophet confined himself within his home, reflecting how the Israelites were confined within the city.

Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

I prostrated myself, and the Spirit entered into me, raising me to my feet. He then spoke to me, instructing me to enter and shut myself in my house. Unable to endure the overwhelming glory of the Lord, I fell on my face, only to be lifted up by the Spirit that filled me. This Spirit restored me to a standing position and communicated, saying, "Enter and close yourself within your home." Having gained strength from the majestic vision of the Lord, do not fear any person, nor let the presence of man intimidate you. Instead, return to your house, whether for bodily necessities as some suggest or as a forewarning of an impending siege. Just as Isaiah prophesied the three years of captivity, highlighting the vulnerability of the people who would walk barefoot, so you, by isolating yourself in your home, will symbolically announce the imminent siege of Jerusalem.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

The Prophet frequently engages in deep reflection to enhance his commitment to the service of the Word. However, it is important to understand that even individuals with the purest of hearts have struggled to grasp divine revelations that align with human comprehension. For instance, the Prophet Seil, who has encountered visions before, collapses when he looks up and requires restorative grace. He then spoke to me, saying, Come in, and close yourself in the heart of your home. God conveys prophecy not merely through words but through actions, and the instructions given to the prophet serve as a foreshadowing of the siege of Jerusalem.
