The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

The day will be shrouded in darkness in Tafnes, representing the despair that calamities bring to humanity. A cloud will envelop Him, as those immersed in wickedness fail to perceive the true light; for them, the day appears more obscure than the deepest darkness. In that moment, He also reveals to them the significance of their sufferings.
